A successful move is more often a product of good planning rather than good luck. To help alleviate some of your moving stress, we have provided some informative articles and a moving checklist, that can help you avoid needless headaches.

  • Check the reputation of your moving company. Ensure that they are a member of the Canadian Association of Movers (CAM). This is important as you are entrusting your valued and often irreplaceable possessions to them.
  • Notify utilities when to discontinue service.
  • Make arrangements in advance for all services at your new home.
  • Make moving arrangements as far ahead as possible.
  • To eliminate costly waiting time, schedule mover’s arrival at new address to coincide with the arrival time of your key.
  • Carry currency, jewellery and valuable papers with you. Movers will not accept responsibility for articles of extraordinary value.
  • Notify post office of change in address.
  • Be sure to notify Bureau of vehicle registration of change of address.
  • Notify school authorities so they may forward you children’s records to their new school.
  • Make sure to have all items being cleaned, repaired, and or stored returned to you before you move.
  • Arrange to transfer your bank account to your new location.
  • Take a telephone book with you, it will come in handy for checking addresses, etc.
  • Throw away inflammables – such as lighter fluids, gasoline, matches.
  • Ensure that all packing boxes are taped closed, top & bottom.
  • Any items, such as luggage, that are not included in your goods to be moved should be kept separate.
  • When marking cartons we suggest you mark contents both on top and on the side for easy identification.
  • If storing your goods, inspect the warehouse facilities of your moving company.
  • Go through the house with truck foreman when he comes to your home, giving any special Instructions you may have.
  • Advise truck driver where you may be contacted at new destination.
  • Any fixtures fastened to the wall, drapery, track, etc. should be taken down for the movers if they are to be moved.
  • On moving day, check attic, basement and garage to make sure all wanted items are taken on truck.
  • All furniture should be empty prior to moving. Remove contents from dressers, file cabinets, desks and night tables.
  • Disconnect & pack electronics, including stereo components, computers, DVD players & lamps.

  • From the initial contact of setting the appointment for a quote to the final item that was off loaded at our new home , moving was a seamless experience. Perry was very thorough with his pricing and took the time to explain every detail including, supplying pamphlets from the Canadian Association of Movers, (Greg & Sons) are members, Ontario Consumer Protection, and also said to contact the Better Business Bureau for all information related to their company. We were also encouraged to get other quotes to compare moving services. The price was not an estimate but the actual price as Perry stated. No surprises! Maureen in the office was very patient and answered all my questions and was always cheerful. The crews that loaded and unloaded our items were careful and very polite.   • Greg and Sons provided such an excellent moving experience. I am very OCD when it comes to my personal space and the team was so friendly, warm, personable and easy-going that they made me feel completely at ease - my OCD felt like it had been totally switched off! Each member of the team was so professional and so caring and with some jokes thrown in the mix made the whole day a lot of fun too. When I was first getting moving quotes, G&S stood out to me from all the rest for just how thorough they were in determining exactly what I needed. Easy to reach and followed up diligently. Arrived almost an hour early on moving day to begin wrapping furniture and be ready to load as soon as my condo elevator was in service. Handled everything with care and knew just how to take care of everything. I was very worried about my bed, which I remembered as being extremely complicated to build, and yet G&S figured out efficiently how to disassemble it, keep everything organized and reassemble perfectly. Nothing broken, no damage to anything. Very courteous and respectful and asked me exactly where I wanted everything. Followed instructions to a tee, including which boxes to set aside and where.
